African Safari Gear

You've spent a lot of money and time booking the perfect Safari, and you need to be sure to have all the right gear for your trip. You will want to created a detailed packing list to ensure you only pack the right stuff.

In general, you chose muted colors such as tan, brown or gray to blend in with the natural surroundings. This mainly applies to your clothes, but is also applicable to luggage. While bright colors won't cause problems per se, natural colors are recommended

Another important aspect of safari gear to consider is electronics. You will see amazing landscapes and a plethora of wildlife, and what better way to capture the memory than with a camera or video camera. For cameras, you will likely want a digital camera with a decent zoom. While you will be able to get reasonably close to many animals, cheetahs, leopards and others will be seen at a distance and require a camera with 8X zoom at a minimum. Also consider a protective bag, as dust and dirt may be present on some of your game drives.

Finally, bring the normal things you would for a visit to any foreign developing country, such as anti-biotics, hand sanitizer, passport and photocopies (stored separately of course) and visas.

Enjoy your African safari. Gear selection is a critical component of planning for the trip, but with a little time and forethought you will get it right!
